These are the natural wonders and captivating features that make this area one of the scenic places that define what Pure Michigan means.
Much of this remarkable state park is housed on Mackinac Island, which is without a doubt, one of ‘the world’s 20 most beautiful islands’ as dubbed by Conde’ Nast Traveler magazine.
Originally established as a national park in 1875, Mackinac Island later became Michigan’s first state park. Eighty percent of the island is still park land, punctuated by distinctive stone formations like the breathtakingly beautiful Arch Rock.

Magnificent scenery and history await you at Mackinac State Historic Parks, with its historic forts, shops, blacksmith shop, sawmill, churches and homes that step into the past for a glimpse of life form the 1770s to the 1910s.
The festivities begin June 15. Visit Mackinac State Historic Parks for a list of activities related to the 50th anniversary.
The grounds surrounding the Hotel Iroquois are adorned with some of the most beautiful gardens on Mackinac Island. During the summer visitors to the Carriage House are treated to a visual feast as they pass along the walkway beside the Hotel Iroquois to the entrance at the restaurant. Here are some photos of the gardens along that walkway and gardens surrounding the Hotel Iroquois. (For more information, here is a great Q & A with Jack Barnwell discussing this garden and others on Mackinac Island: http://ow.ly/mhGuW)
